Every night, a friendly voice from Wildwood leans in close and tells a little one a story — a small, true tale about the friends we all love.
Here’s the heart of it: the storytellers are never the stars of the show. They’re the neighbors — the watchers, the helpers, the ones who were there when it happened. That keeps every beloved voice exactly where it belongs, and it opens the door to an endless library: a gentle, good-night story from any corner of Wildwood, for every night of the year. Meet the first four.

The Elder
Barnaby Mossback
Ancient box turtle · the porch swing at Wish Lake
Barnaby has lived longer than anyone can rightly remember, and he knew most of Wildwood back when they were small. He’s the quiet, watchful sort — doesn’t say much as the day goes by — but he sees everything and forgets nothing. Come evening you’ll find him on his porch swing at the edge of Wish Lake, lantern lit and the whole town glowing gold below him. And when he leans back and says, “Now… let me tell you about the time,” you settle right in.
Low-key, watchful, and full of years — he knows everyone, and misses nothing.
Out by the river, right where the day’s adventures happen.
The Doer
Jaxon
Sturdy, big-hearted beaver · the riverbank & the woods
Jaxon is always out and about with a wood chip in paw and a job half-finished — mending a fence, shoring up the riverbank, lending a paw wherever one’s needed. Because he’s forever working right where things are happening, he’s the one who actually saw what the young’uns got up to in the forest today. His stories come straight from the field: “I was down by the river when…”
Always out where the work — and the adventures — are happening.

The Watcher
Willa
Gentle barn owl · watches from the sky, tells by the fire
Willa sees Wildwood the way no one else can — from above. On the wing there’s no corner of town she can’t reach and no rooftop too high; by day she drifts over the whole of it and takes everything in. Then, come evening, she wraps up warm by the fire and tells the day back soft and dreamy: “I saw what the little ones did today…”
She can reach any corner of Wildwood from the air — so any story is hers to tell.

The Town Heart
Mrs. Quill
Cozy hedgehog baker · the little shop on Main Street
Mrs. Quill runs the bakery on Main Street — which means she runs the warmest corner in all of Wildwood. Everyone passes through her door, and everyone tells her everything. There isn’t a soul in town she doesn’t know or a bit of news she hasn’t heard (usually twice). But it’s never unkind — she simply loves her neighbors and remembers every one of them.
If it happened in Wildwood, she’s already heard about it — and it always comes from love.
Why these four
Together, they cover all of Wildwood
Set them side by side and there’s nowhere a story can hide. Barnaby holds the long memory and the wisdom of years. Jaxon’s down in the woods and along the river, right where the cubs’ adventures happen. Willa takes in the whole town from the air. And Mrs. Quill hears every bit of news that walks through her door. Whatever the story — wherever it happens, whoever it’s about — one of them was there to tell it.
